How We make our fabric

Our Merino stands apart from other merino wools because we weave intricate patterns and vibrant colors that elevate the fabric’s beauty. Below are the steps involved in creating our Merino wool, which is ethically sourced from Australia, crafted in India & designed in Seattle.

Cleaning & spinning the Wool

We ethically source raw Merino wool from Australia, ensuring the sheep are gently sheared with no harm. The fleece is collected in a single piece to maintain consistency and undergoes a thorough cleaning process, resulting in a natural cream color.

It is then carefully processed through fine-toothed rollers to remove knots, straighten, and align the fibers. Finally, the wool is spun using the ring-spinning method.

Finishing the wool

The spun thread undergoes a final wash to and eliminate any remaining residues.

Dyeing the Wool

Wool is then dyed into skin friendly colors according to the design and yarn is inspected for consistent thickness, strength, and color. Skin friendly such as Dharma dye which specifically is designed to color protein fibers like wool is used.

Weaving the Fabric

The threads are then fed into machines that weave the fabric, carefully incorporating the desired prints. These machines produce complex designs and combine 3 layers of wool together, giving the fabric a perfect weave.

Boiling the Fabric

Once the fabric is ready it is gently boiled in hot water to make it soft, non-itchy, warm and luxurious. The boiling process shrinks the fabric and gives it a tighter weave making it lightweight, wind resistance as well as water resistant. After this process the drying process begins which requires 7-10 days. This valuable fabric is then ready to be cut into scarves, shawls, capes, and jackets.

Crafted with Care, Committed to Sustainability

Once our Merino wool fabric is perfected, it is sent to a specialized workshop where expert tailors—familiar with the unique movement and texture of our material—handcraft each piece with precision. From garments to accessories, every item reflects our dedication to quality and artisanal skill.

At Samaya Merino, sustainability is woven into everything we do. We ensure that no fabric goes to waste by transforming every leftover piece into elegant gloves, scarves, and hats. It’s our way of reducing pollution while honoring our commitment to mindful, zero-waste production.
